Description

Who can attend this course

The Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI2022) course addresses electrical work as defined by the Building Regulations and adheres to BS7671:2018 Amendment 2 (2022). For this reason, it is ideal for individuals who perform electrical work in conjunction with their main occupation. Crucially, it is not designed to train new entrants or convert a non-qualified person into a full electrician. Rather, the course structure comprehensively covers both the theoretical and practical sides of domestic electrical installations, specifically planning, installing, fault finding, and commissioning:

The key areas covered in the course generally include:

  1. Safety, Legislation, and Standards:

    • Electrical Safety legislation, Regulations Standards, and Terminology.

    • Applicable Building Regulations for domestic electrical installations, focusing on Part P compliance.

  2. Design and Planning:

    • Domestic Electrical Circuit Design Specifications.

    • Basic Electrical Theory and Calculations (e.g., Ohm’s Law, voltage drop, cable sizing).

    • Domestic Electrical Installation Pre-Work Survey/Risk Assessments.

  3. Installation Practices:

    • Installing Domestic Electrical Circuits (lighting, sockets, etc.).

    • Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding Requirements.

    • Identification of Mains Position Components and Protective Devices (like RCDs/RCBOs).

    • Safe Isolation Procedures for de-energizing circuits.

    • Rules for Special Locations and Installations (e.g., bathrooms, outdoors).

  4. Verification, Fault Finding, and Documentation:

    • Inspecting, Testing, and Commissioning Single Phase Domestic Electrical Circuits.

    • Identification of Unsafe Domestic Electrical Situations and Fault Finding.

    • Recording of Electrical Test Results and Completion of Certification and Notification requirements (Part P notification).

This qualification ensures individuals can carry out specific electrical work legally and safely in domestic properties, particularly non-notifiable work, or work under the supervision of a Qualified Supervisor for notifiable projects.
